Here’s a quick overview of what you need to know about the submission process. Every time you submit your work, it will go through the three steps explained below. If you have additional questions, feel free to scroll down to our FAQs or visit the contact page for further assistance.

STEP 1

Submit

  • WANT TO SUBMIT?
    Scroll up, click the ‘submit’ button, and fill in the form with your personal info, story details, preferences, and whether you’d like to take advantage of our paid services. Then read the terms and upload your work, or provide a link to the uploaded file (for video/audio) — no need for large file uploads!

  • CREATE IT, CONTROL IT!
    By submitting your work, you retain full ownership of your content and can continue to publish and monetize it as you wish. You simply grant us permission to review and share it on our platform and social media channels. Check out our terms and conditions for more details.

  • STAY LOWKEY
    Prefer to stay lowkey? It is possible to receive paid feedback without submitting your work to our collections!

    Simply select ‘no collection’ under preferences when you’re filling in the submission form.

STEP 2

Review

  • TIME TO REVIEW
    After submitting, a reviewer will assess your work using assessment criteria tailored to the chosen collection:
    • Official Selection: Assessed on ALL applicable criteria.
    • Menagerie: Assessed only on the applicable ‘technique’ criteria.

  • RELEVANCE & FOCUS
    The reviewer will focus on the applicable criteria for the medium of your work, ensuring a relevant and focused assessment of your unique content.

  • PAID FEEDBACK
    If you submitted a work of fiction and opted for paid feedback, you’ll receive detailed insights on ALL criteria. This feedback can help you elevate your work. Otherwise, you’ll receive basic feedback in the form of a short summary of our findings.

STEP 3

Notify

  • THE RESULT
    Once your work has been reviewed, you’ll receive your feedback and learn if your work has been selected for our collection. This typically takes 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the number of submissions we’ve received.

  • IF APPROVED:
    Your work will be added to the selected collection and you may receive a laurel (depending on the collection).

    Approved stories enter our upload pipeline, so please note; it may take some time for your work to be shown on the site.

  • IF NOT APPROVED:
    Don’t be discouraged. Submitting is free (unless opting for paid services). Use our feedback to improve and consider resubmitting in the future.

CONTENT OWNERSHIP

We uphold the principle: ‘Create It, Control It!’. When you share your content with us, you retain full ownership.

We respect your rights as a creator, ensuring that you maintain control over your work at all times. We do not condone the unauthorized use of others’ work for personal gain and take plagiarism seriously. For more info check out our terms and conditions.

Using this system we review various aspects of storytelling such as technique, immersion, cohesion, characterization and creativity, allowing us to select high-quality stories.

LAURELS

We award laurels to creators whose work meets our standards when adding to specific collections, symbolizing excellence and affirming the quality of their work.

Once approved, creators receive laurels directly from us. We keep close track of which stories have earned them, ensuring they are awarded only to deserving creators. Like awards at film festivals, these laurels serve as a badge of honor for their portfolio, showcasing their talent and achievements. PAID SERVICES

We offer two paid services as part of the submission process:

1. Express Experience ($4.99):
Make your submission a priority with our Express Experience service. Your work will be reviewed first, ensuring a faster evaluation process.

2. Paid Feedback: Get a comprehensive review of your fictional stories based on our assessment criteria with our Paid Feedback service. We provide in-depth insights on your scores and offer suggestions for improvement. The price depends on the length or duration of the submitted work. Can I submit work that has previously been published on other platforms?

Yes, you can submit previously published work as long as you were the original publisher/creator and it complies with the terms and conditions of the platform where it was previously published!

What are the benefits of your paid services, and how do they work?

We prioritize submissions on a first-come, first-served basis. The Express Experience grants priority treatment in our review queue, allowing you to skip the line and receive results faster.

Paid feedback provides structured insights across the five key areas of storytelling we employ, detailing your scores, our feedback, and improvement suggestions akin to a beta reading. The feedback is delivered in a written format and offers comprehensive insights into your work’s strengths and areas for enhancement. How are laurels awarded and what do they signify?

Laurels are awarded to creators whose work meets our criteria and is selected for specific collections, signifying excellence within our community. They’re sent as an image with submission result emails, so you can add them to your own promotional materials, or portfolio. Contact us if you wish to receive your laurels in another format.

Someone else submitted my work, what can I do?

We do not condone the unauthorized use of others’ work for personal gain and take plagiarism seriously. If you notice that your work has been submitted by someone else, please inform us directly at info@thebabelcompany.com so we can take appropriate action. The same goes for when you would like your stories to be removed from our collections. Please note that you will need to provide proof of ownership of your content before we can take any actions.

How do I prove ownership of my content?

To prove ownership of your content (when someone else submitted your work), you have several options: Copyright Registration provides legal evidence. Proof of publishing on other reputable platforms establish a public record of ownership. Documentation of the Creative Process, such as drafts, notes or version history of the content in question, demonstrates originality. Providing Full Original Files, especially for multimedia content, offers transparent evidence of creation. Collaborator Testimonials confirm contributions, and Physical Copies or Originals of traditional art serve as tangible proof of authorship.
